NWS @ KubeCon EU and Kubernetes v1.33 Release

It’s the last Wednesday in April, which means it’s newsletter time!

At the beginning of the month, NWS was at KubeCon EU in London with part of the team and came back with a suitcase full of inspiration, new tools and techniques - you can find our review including our favorite contributions in the first post.

There was also new content on our blog this month - for example our review of the newest Kubernetes release v1.33 Octarine. Otherwise, as in all our newsletters, there are also some News from the Internet and the CLI Corner - enjoy reading!

NWS @ KubeCon EU in London

At the beginning of the month, Achim, Dominik, Justin, Sebastian and I spent four days in London at this year’s KubeCon. The general conditions were the same as every year: lots of exhibitors, even more talks, and the inevitable question of which talks to catch straight away and which would end up on the YouTube watchlist.

One of the highlights for us was of course the official announcement of NETWAYS Managed Services as a Silver Member of the CNCF during the keynotes on the first day of the conference.

In our usual review, we also captured our personal highlights, ubiquitous topics and trends such as AI, LLMs and Open Telemetry and other impressions - take a look!

Kubernetes v1.33 Octarine released

In our Kubernetes release review, I took a close look at the latest Kubernetes release v1.33 Octarine.

Besides 5 deprecations, a few new features stand out that made it into either Beta or General Availability, most notably Pod Resizing and support for the new Sidecar Containers.

Read our full Kubernetes release review for a deeper dive into the new features, including examples and discussion.

NWS @ stackconf - stop by!

At the time you read this newsletter, part of the NWS team is in Munich at stackconf.

As a Silver Sponsor, we are supporting this great two-day event about cloud-native and infrastructure and learning new things about the challenges and wishes of our customers and interested parties.

Stefan and Martin are responsible for organizing our Capture the Flag event at our stand, where participants can put their Kubernetes skills to the test. Come and say Hi if you’re there!

Reading Corner

This month we have a colorful potpourri of deep insights into the development processes at large companies, the usual posts to learn new things about Kubernetes and Co, and blog posts that make you think - enjoy reading!

CLI Quick Win

If, like me, you often find yourself debugging Kubernetes environments, you will certainly have struggled with kubectl logs - the output is often confusing, too granular or not granular enough.

With stern you can output any container in pods of different workloads in your cluster - or select only individual components of your environment.

Further strengths of stern are the coherent coloring of related logs as well as automatic detection of new pods or containers of the same workload - invaluable in dynamic environments!

stern is licensed under Apache 2.0 and freely available on GitHub under stern/stern.
